Bantaeng Regent: Attracting Investor With Electricity

Jakarta – TAMBANG. Nurdin Adullah, Banteng Regent, has just signed an MoU with the state utility company, PT PLN (Persero), to supply the electricity needs of Bantaeng Regency last Friday (2/15) in Jakarta. “I promise to do everything within my power and authority, to provide PLN with whatever it needs to supply electricity in Bantaeng, such as providing land for power plant construction.”

Recently, PT Earthstone Metal and Mining has committed for an investment in Bantaeng, a regency located 120 km away from Makassar – South Sulawesi, by building manganese smelter although there are no mines in the area. The facility would require 70MW of electricity supply, a relatively large number even for South Sulawesi Province.

The importance of electricity supply is well addressed, as well as the needs for clean bureaucracy to provide legal certainty for investors. “Just ask Earthstone, the have their permits done within an hour,” claimed the regent.

Attracting investors means rural areas such as Bantaeng Regency could provide new job fields. “I will provide what the people needs, not what the people wants. One thing I know for sure is that my people need employments, therefore we welcome investors to come,” Nurdin Abdullah said. []
